Youth volunteering
Whether you’re looking to complete your Duke of Edinburgh Award or gain insight into a future career in healthcare, we have volunteering opportunities designed specifically for young people.
Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering (age 14 to 24)
We welcome young people aged 14 to 24 who are completing their Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. You’ll volunteer alongside staff and volunteers in one of our retail locations, gaining valuable skills, confidence and experience while supporting St Leonard’s Hospice and your local community.
We recruit for Duke of Edinburgh placements at selected points throughout the year and are not currently accepting applications, our next round of recruitment will take place in January 2027. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Exploring a career in healthcare?
Our Ward Youth Programme is for young people aged 16 to 25 who would like to gain experience in a healthcare setting. You’ll volunteer alongside our ward team, develop employability skills and learn more about careers in health and care while making a difference to patients and their families.
We run this programme once a year. Applications open in September and volunteering takes place through the autumn and winter.
