York woman to run London Marathon in memory of sister who was cared for by St Leonard’s Hospice

For Annabel, there is no doubt how much it means to her, as she is running every step of the 26.2 miles in memory of her big sister, Diane Wood, who died in May 2020. Diane was cared for by St Leonard’s Hospice.

Annabel said: “There are so many wonderful charities to support, but to be able to fundraise for a charity that has provided support and care to my loved one seems like the best place to start.

“Whilst in the hospice, one of the nurses who was giving care to my sister said these simple words which will forever stay with me: ‘It is my pleasure to look after you.’ She said this with total sincerity and warmth. Annabel’s response to that kindness is to take on the London Marathon to raise money for the Hospice.

“It is my pleasure to fundraise for St Leonard’s Hospice. To ensure they have the money needed to support other people and their families when they need it the most. St Leonard’s Hospice enabled Diane to live before she died and for this, I will be forever grateful. Annabel said she cannot thank St Leonard’s Hospice enough for the comfort they provided to her family at such a difficult time. Annabel has been training hard in preparation for the big day and has clocked up over 320 miles since starting her marathon plan on 8 June.
