Our new shop opens in Malton, with dedicated denim department

Our new St Leonard’s Hospice store in Malton opened in July, and is set to surprise the local area.

The new-look store is part of our future vision, moving away from the traditional style of a local charity shop.

It offers e a unique high street shopping experience, complete with digital displays, modern lighting and touch screen information points. The shop also includes the latest pre-loved fashion and homewares, including brand new lounge and bedroom furniture, and offers a modern shopping experience.

And that’s not all, the new shop has a dedicated denim department which is part of its drive to be more sustainable.

Jason Lomas, Retail Development and Operations Manager explained: “Thousands of litres of water are used in the manufacture of denim each year so why not help the environment by buying pre-loved items instead of new? We will be focusing one of the areas of the store on denim fashion, which we know is popular with our customers.”

The spacious shop, at 48/52 Wheelgate is ideally situated for customers and officially opened on Friday 5 July. It will be open every Monday to Saturday 9am to 4pm.

Jason said: “In the same style as our newly-opened Pocklington shop, this new Malton store promises to offer people a great shopping experience so that they can enjoy coming into the shop just like any other high street store. We wanted to move away from the typical charity-shop feel and create something new, whilst keeping the costs down for the customer. It was great to have a blank canvas to work on so we could create our vision for this new-look shop, and we hope the people of Malton and surrounding area really like what we’ve done.”

We are also looking for people to volunteer to become part of our friendly and welcoming shop team in Malton. Shop volunteers can develop retail skills, meet new people and help raise vital funds all at the same time. There are a variety of voluntary roles available in the new shop, so you’ll be able to find one that suits you. Jason also explained: “We need to raise around £6 million annually to run the Hospice’s services and we rely on the generosity of our community to enable us to do this. We now have 14 charity shops in York and the surrounding area which helps us raise these much-needed funds, with one in ten of our patients being cared for thanks for the funds raised through our shops.”
