Andy and Carl in a Gold Volvo (Gold Member).

2022-04-29

St Leonards Hospice is a charity close to both of our hearts. In October 2020 Carl's Mum, Irene Green was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, something that she bravely battled for 15 weeks, even spending her last Christmas in Hospital, though this was the last time she was to leave the house. Because with the help of St Leonards Hospice Irene was able to be at home throughout her illness, before passing away peacefully surrounded by her Family on 8th February 2021, at the age of 65 and only 3 days before her 66th birthday. Staying at home wouldn't have been possible without the help of the fantastic nurses at St Leonards. All of this took place during COVID lockdown, so had she been admitted to the hospice her family would not have been able to spend the last few days with her. This is a worthwhile charity that helps so many people and one we never thought we would have to use, but one that helped us. -------------------------------------------------- Carl and Andy will be competing in 2 Banger Rally's (Two Ball Banger Rally), 1 at the end of April and 1 in August. Both Rally's will be completed in a £600 convertible Gold Volvo! The first Rally is completing the Scotland NC500 (though ours is the TBR700 - no idea where the extra 200 miles come from) This starts on the 29th April with us hoping to reach the end point by Monday 2nd May! If the car makes it the second Rally is even more adventurous - in the same car we will be driving across 9, yes 9 European Countries in 4 days (England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco) This starts on 12th August with us hoping to reach our destination by the 15th August and if the car is still running we will drive it home! Along the way we will be given a number of Top Gear Style Challenges - think best picture of your car parked in the strangest place, or most Italian thing to so on the Stelvio Pass, or even do some work with the locals. With all of this you can follow us on Facebook where we will keep you up to date with the challenges and how we are getting on, wish us luck. Our theme for this year - so look out for pictures is of course Austin Powers Gold Member Oh - one thing Andy and Carl have no mechanical knowledge - so this really is an adventure - what's the worst that can happen!
