Ann knits in memory of Husband Brian
We were absolutely delighted at our Acomb store when Ann Smith and her friend Teresa came in to donate a blanket and babies cardigans that Ann had knitted over lock down.
Originally from Dringhouses, Ann has been a valued member of the York community and even after partially losing her sight at 14, her and her late husband Brian did not let it stop them from making a huge impact.
In 1979, Brian helped to found the York based charity ‘My-sight’, who helps to ‘enable people living with sight loss to make confident choices about all aspects of their lives’. In 2012, Ann was nominated for a ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award, acknowledging her incredible work with a variety of charities over her life time, these include the Blind and Partially Sighted Society and Guide Dogs UK.
Ann has also been a long-time supporter of the Hospice since her husband Brian passed away 8 years ago with our Hospice@Home team. She was so grateful for the care that Brian received and knew that the money raised from her knitted creations would be going to a great cause.
We are so proud to have such amazingly dedicated supporters like Ann and Teresa, who touched us with their heart-warming story and generous donations.
