Fulford Golf Club's story
The St Leonard’s Hospice annual charity golf day fundraiser at Fulford Golf Club took place on 27 June this year.
Joan and Colin Foster, along with Kath Stubbs, are part of a committee of eight people who organise the event. Just under 200 participants formed teams of four to compete for first prize while raising funds for the Hospice
The Club has been hosting the event for 44 years with the inaugural one taking place in 1981 when then captain, Brian Harwood, was approached to see if they could support with funds to help build the Hospice. “He decided to do a competition where they hoped to raise £500. In the end they raised £900,” Joan remembers.
Since then, the competition has raised an amazing £360,453! “We are thrilled to have raised such a phenomenal amount for St Leonard’s over the years,” adds Joan.
“Today’s event has been our best one yet, raising just over £15,000. This includes £2,133 raised by Stonegate Yard Bar & Grill who cater and staff the halfway house, plus a generous anonymous donation from someone who appreciates the work of the Hospice.”
Joan, who has been on the organising committee for 35 years, explains why they continue to support St Leonard’s. “It is such a wonderful place. I know people who have been cared for at the Hospice, including one of our committee members who died in the in-patient unit this year. As a charity they need the money, and we hope to continue to support them for the next 40 years.”
Thank you, Joan, Colin, Kath plus fellow committee members Ian Bruce, Tim Cross, Bob Crome, Glyn Rodgers, and Keith Spittle for continuing to support us with this fantastic event!
Next year’s charity golf day is on Friday 26 June 2026. It will be the 45th fundraiser at Fulford for the Hospice.
