Our Moonlight Walk is back again!
Our iconic Moonlight Walk will be taking place again this September.
Kate Chapman, her son Harry and her brother Mark Robson, will be striding out for the fourth time to raise money in memory of Kate and Mark’s father, Richard Robson, who was cared for in the Hospice and by the Hospice@Home team. Richard died in 2020, aged 67, after a short stay in the Hospice.
Walkers will get the chance to paint the town neon and join friends and family for a glow-themed, seven-mile circular route of York. Wearing anything neon and glowing, every walker will receive a branded T-shirt, with prizes for the best dressed.
The walk takes place on Saturday 14 September, setting off at 9pm from the Hospice. Check in is from 7pm.
Kate said: “It’s so important to raise the money needed to fund the Hospice, as well as raise awareness of the work that they do. There is so much camaraderie during the walk as many people have been through something similar.”
Kate’s walk will probably be ‘super quick’. “My brother is very competitive and likes to get a stride on! We did it in about two hours last year!” Kate has raised nearly £900 to date and anyone wishing to sponsor her again can do so on her Just Giving page.
There will be live music and entertainment from the Tri-Starrs and hosting from YO1 Radio. Spectators can enjoy watching from the comfort of hay bales and everyone can take part in a spectacular warm-up and games.
Walkers who sign up by Friday August 16 will be guaranteed a free Moonlight Walk branded T-shirt. Others will receive the St Leonard’s branded shirt. You can find out more and buy tickets here: Buy tickets – Moonlight Walk 2024 – Starting at St Leonard’s Hospice (tickettailor.com)
The free Moonlight Walk T-shirts have been sponsored by Clifton Park Hospital, part of Ramsay Health Care UK. Sandra Donoghue, Hospital Director at Clifton Park Hospital, said: “As part of Ramsay Health Care UK, our philosophy of ‘people caring for people’ is at the centre of everything we do. At Clifton Park Hospital we believe our responsibility to our local community stretches beyond connecting patients to skilled practitioners. St Leonard’s Hospice is an organisation very dear to our hearts and supporting this year’s Moonlight Walk is a meaningful way for us to show our appreciation and contribute to a cause that provides care and support for many people in our community. We very much look forward to being part of this memorable event.”
A staggering £36k was raised last year in the biggest Moonlight Walk event ever, with more than 500 people turning out to take part in the annual event.
