Iceland trek raises more than £27,000 for Hospice

In November 2025, a brave group of trekkers took on a challenging five-day adventure in Iceland to raise funds for St Leonard’s Hospice. Over snow-covered peaks, volcanic landscapes and geothermal areas, the trek pushed everyone to their limits.

The climb to 805 metres in the Mount Hengill area proved the toughest day. With knee-deep snow in many places, some of the trekkers feared they might not make it to the top. However through teamwork and determination, everyone reached the summit and returned safely, feeling immensely rewarded by the shared achievement.

Guided by experienced local experts and supported by a UK tour manager, the group also enjoyed glimpses of the Northern Lights and the stunning Icelandic scenery along the way.

After two years of fundraising, including bake sales, curry nights, raffles and even a music festival, the trekkers have raised more than an incredible £27,000, with donations still coming in. Many participants had never met before, and several live outside the local area, making their commitment even more remarkable.

For some, the challenge was deeply personal, with loved ones having been cared for by St Leonard’s Hospice either in our In-Patient Unit or through Hospice@Home. Their stories were a powerful reminder of how important hospice care is, both for patients and for the families around them.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part, donated or supported the team.
