After his mum was cared for by our team at St Leonard’s, Robert wanted to change his Will. Here, he shares his experience of participating in Make a Will Month and leaving a gift to the Hospice.
“My mum died, cared for by the wonderful nursing team at St Leonard’s. The calm, compassionate care they gave her in her final days was simply extraordinary. They looked after her like she was their own family, and they made sure that we all had the support we needed. St Leonard’s gave us good memories of Mum in her final days, and I don’t think we will ever truly be able to say ‘thank you’ to them.
“After Mum had passed I needed to update my Will, and the Hospice helped me with that too, through its Make a Will Month.
“I contacted one of the solicitors on the list and they could not have been more helpful. A meeting was quickly arranged, and they supported me to make a Will that allowed me to fully consider everyone in my life, ensuring we maximised the value of what would go to my loved ones.
“I wanted to be able to continue to support the Hospice, and to make sure that they could be there for another family like mine in years to come. It felt right and natural for me to include a gift to the Hospice in my Will. I discussed it with my family, who were all in agreement, and we thought Mum would have approved too.
“We never know when we might need the Hospice. I may have to call on it again at some point. We’re lucky to have such a comprehensive, expert care service that’s there for us all, completely free of charge. I think leaving a gift in a Will is such a simple way of supporting this vital local service, and I would encourage everyone to do so if they can.”
