Jenny's story

Meet Jenny, one of our bereavement coordinators, who has worked at St Leonard’s for 16 years.

Jenny first came across the Hospice when it opened in the 80s and says she always had a feeling she would work here. Over the years, her sense of connection has grown into a role that sits at the centre of the support St Leonard’s offers families.

“I’ve always worked with loss, and supported families with bereavement and pre-bereavement. I’m a social worker by background, and I started work at St Leonard’s as a social worker on the in-patient unit. During the lockdown in 2020, I spent time finding new ways to reach people with our team’s support, and I realised this was where I had the most to offer.

“My work here has been challenging and bittersweet. There’s nothing more satisfying than being able to give people the very best of yourself at the hardest time. It’s a privilege to work with the team here, and to meet all those I’ve met over the years.

“I’m proud of the strength people find from within to live with grief and build a new life around it. I’ve hopefully helped make a difference, but the real difference is made by the people themselves. My mum died at the Hospice and it will always have a place in my heart. The Hospice belongs to everyone in the community, and it’s a privilege to be part of it.”

Jenny’s story is woven into the lives of many families who have turned to St Leonard’s for support, and reflects the compassion that sits at the heart of the Hospice.
