Casey's story

Casey has worked at St Leonard’s Hospice for almost five years as a Bank Housekeeping Assistant, fitting the role in around her college and university studies.

“I was studying Health and Social Care at York College when I was 16, and I saw the position advertised there. I thought that it would align with my interests, so I applied and was successful.

“It’s such a nice place to work, and everyone’s so kind to each other. Even though the Hospice can be a sad place at times, there’s so much joy here as well.”

Casey’s team has the important role of keeping the Hospice clean every day, from our in-patient bedrooms to our communal family and staff areas. Speaking about how it feels to be part of this team, Casey says: “We work so well together, and when I first started as a teenager, they all took me under their wing. The Hospice is a really supportive environment.”

This month, Casey has said goodbye to St Leonard’s as she prepares to start a new, full-time role in an operating theatre in September. “I’ve been studying Operating Department Practice at university, so I’m really excited to be working in this area next month”, she says. “I’ll miss everyone at the Hospice, though. I’ve really loved my time here.

“For anyone considering a role at St Leonard’s at any stage of their career, I would definitely tell them to go for it. It’s a brilliant place to work, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.”
