Bishopthorpe Pharmacy's story

For well over 20 years, Bishopthorpe Pharmacy has been a steadfast supporter of St Leonard’s, selling our Christmas cards each winter and helping to raise thousands of pounds for our care. Their commitment is a wonderful example of how local businesses can make a real difference in the community.

Bec Clark, the pharmacy’s manager, reflects on their long connection with the Hospice:

“The Hospice is a local charity to us, and most people in York know someone who has been helped by their care. The community really love the cards, one lady bought 12 packs in one go last week! We put a notice up after Christmas to let customers know how much has been raised, and we also have collection boxes to help raise funds. We’ll do anything we can to support the Hospice.

I remember the Hospice opening in 1985. I used to go and sing carols there each Christmas with others from St Edward the Confessor Church at the time.”

Paul, one of the pharmacy’s delivery drivers, shares a personal memory:

“One of the Hospice’s first nurses looked after my mum before they’d even really opened. She put my mum Mavis’ name in the St Leonard’s Book of Remembrance. I’ve been back a couple of times to see it at the Hospice’s sanctuary, which was a nice thing to do.”

Stories like these remind us how much St Leonard’s means to people across York, and how much of a difference community support can make. We are incredibly grateful to Bishopthorpe Pharmacy and everyone who helps us continue our work.
