Sarah Stafford's fundraiser for St Leonard's Hospice Yorkshire10 Mile.

2023-10-15

St Leonard's Hospice and St Leonard's Hospice in the Home do an absolutely amazing job of looking after both patients and their families in the most horrendous situations and I have decided to run the Yorkshire 10 mile to raise much needed funds for this fantastic charity.

Story

Firstly I am running for my Uncle David Beadnell and his immediate family. He has recently been diagnosed with Cancer and may be needing the wonderful care and attention of the St Leonard's Hospice team in the future. Also in memory of my dad, Malcolm Fawcett, an extremely keen runner and indoor rower, whom we lost to Cancer 8 years ago. The St Leonard's Hospice in the Home team were absolutely incredible in supporting him and all of us, his family, at home in the last week of his life. In memory too for my Auntie Jean Johnson who spent the last few weeks of her life in their care at the hospice 7 years ago, all the staff made her time there much more bearable for both her and her family. He ran his first GNR in 1982 and ran every one until 2009. He continued running even after his diagnosis, although not competitely. He loved running and always thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of this fantastic event in particular. So it seems to be a fitting tribute for me to be running this in his memory. Although he won't believe that I'm actually doing this - a third time!! Me who never did anything remotely sporting in my life!!!! He'll be laughing his running socks off 🤣. He will be very proud of Jimmy running, also for the third time..chip off the old block 😉. Also, unfortunately, we have recently discovered that my uncle, David Beadnell, has been diagnosed with Cancer and is now needing the wonderful support of the Macmillan team! So I am running for Uncle David, who is currently fighting this terrible disease! Thank you for all your support. As an extra bonus, whatever amount I raise in sponsorship, my work will match £ for £!!!!
