Sunflower Centre.
For patients affected by life limiting illnesses, along with their families and carers, accessing services should be as easy as possible. That’s why the Sunflower Centre is so important to our Hospice. It represents a chance for us to provide emotional, social and spiritual support, and for you to manage your symptoms with space and time to relax.
You can be referred to the Sunflower Centre by your GP, District Nurse, Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurse, Consultant or Clinical Nurse Specialist. After referral and initial assessment, we’ll agree a personalised plan that suits your needs, drawing on whichever services can help – usually on a time-limited basis.
We’re unable to provide transport for most patients, but will complete a transport assessment for all those attending R&R days.

Relaxation and reablement (R&R) days on Wednesdays 10.30am until 3.30pm, provide social interaction, therapies, carer respite and peer support for you to retain independence and quality of life. Come for the whole day, or a shorter time, for up to 12 weeks.
Catch Your Breath (CYB) workshops held every Thursday afternoon, for patients living with breathlessness and fatigue. The course covers restful sleep, nutrition and hydration, gentle and adapted exercise, and self-management techniques, as well as non-pharmacological therapeutic relaxation and diversional techniques. Every patient is offered six sessions, with family and carers welcome.
Drop-in sessions every Friday from 10am until 3pm, open to all those living with life limiting conditions. A chance to find social and spiritual support, ask about Advance Care Planning, and undertake art and creative work without medical or nursing input – if you attend, you must be able to self medicate. No referrals or appointments are necessary and family members and carers can come independently.

A bathing service is available every Friday, with four one-hour appointments available. Many patients enjoy complimentary therapy and refreshments during their visit.
Other clinics and therapies offered at the Sunflower Centre include Lymphoedema Outpatient Clinic on Mondays and Thursdays, and a range of Complementary Therapies by appointment. You can also access Hospice Biographers.
Art therapy held every Thursday, led by an Art Psychotherapist. Explore emotions and issues raised by your illness, treatment and journey in a safe and confidential environment.
Chillout Thursdays held every week from 10am until 12 noon, open to all those living with or affected by life limiting conditions. A chance to learn de-stress and relaxation techniques, mindfulness, guided meditation and adapted yoga.
