St Leonard’s isn’t just about the Hospice – you can find us all over the local area, with 12 shops and a donation centre supporting the work we do caring for terminally ill people and those with life limiting illnesses.

We have some ambitious plans for 2023 which will see increased activity in our Retail Transformation plan as a number of projects come through the pipeline. To help us in preparation of this, and to help ensure we keep our current operation running smoothly and efficiently at all times, we are always on the lookout for relief shop managers, and drivers, to join on a bank basis.

Our shops stock a huge variety of pre-loved items, from clothes and homewares, to books and furniture. We also have a growing online presence, and have ambitious plan to grow this income stream in the future.  Combined, the Retail operation generates in excess of £2m sales revenue per annum.

A dedicated and passionate team support the Retail operation, from Shop Managers, Deputy Managers and Retail Assistants to the Retail Support Team, including drivers,  based in our Retail Office and Donation Centre in Acomb. Every role plays a crucial part in supporting our efforts to generate funds for the care and services St Leonard’s hospice provides. Each shop is run by a manager who is supported by a deputy, a retail assistant and a team of volunteers.

Relief Shop Managers:

In this established and key role you will support the network of Shop Managers, particularly on those occasions where they are unable to work.  You will be responsible for ensuring the correct financial procedures are followed in order to comply with Hospice policies.  A willingness to help and support other shop managers is vital in this role.

Stamina and a good sense of humour are paramount, together with a creative eye, good display skills and innovative ideas to boost shop takings.
